New name for GBO.Overheid
From January 2010, GBO.Overheid will be called Logius. GBO.Overheid is changing its name because they wish to be more recognizable within the government. Through the new name, GBO.Overheid wishes to send out the message that public service providers working with their digital service can come to GBO.Overheid for the set-up of their ICT infrastructure.
The name Logius stems from logic. It says something about the way in which GBO.Overheid's products and services are interconnected, and that they enable connections. The name GBO.Overheid is no longer sufficient because it doesn't set us apart. There are several joint maintenance organizations like this. Moreover, GBO.Overheid is an abbreviation that many people don't know.
The name will be changed in January 2010, because at that time GBO.Overheid intends starting as a cost/benefit agency for the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. Furthermore, GBO.Overheid will be using the house style of the entire state from January 2010 and this will be a logical time to implement the change of name.
The name Logius will be clarified with the designation 'Digital government service'. The logo with the name will be the logo for the whole state.
The Dutch governmental shared service organization for ICT
Tomorrow's government wants to be efficient, flexible and customer-oriented. ICT is an important tool in this. In the near future ICT will enable citizens and companies not only to communicate with the government 24 hours a day, seven days a week but also to supply information only once. All government agencies operate on the same principle: they require a citizen's or a company's registration only once, they offer one central registration number to each client, and use one safe system of authentication.
From January 2006 the Dutch governmental shared service organization for ICT (GBO.Overheid) has been responsible for the management and ongoing
development of a number of ICT services for all government agencies.
GBO.Overheid also develops shared standards to facilitate electronic messaging
among government agencies, citizens and companies. GBO.Overheid is a telling example how the Dutch government tries to improve its electronic services to
these user groups. ICT security, integrity and continuity need to be guaranteed in order to be successful.

Forum Standaardisatie
The 'Standardization Forum' supports the Dutch government in the use,
development and establishment of open standards for electronic exchange. In
this way it promotes interoperability not only within the Dutch government system itself but also in the relations between government agencies on the one hand and citizens and companies on the other. This is how the Dutch government can present itself as one party offering various electronic services to both user groups and is free to make its own choices in the software market. GBO.Overheid coordinates the bureau of the Standardization Forum.

A green government for a green society
Turning green talk into green action
Suppose we start doing all things electronically which can be done electronically. We will no longer send letters, unless absolutely necessary. This will save paper, ink and gas emissions. Sounds simple, but you get the point. Smart process designs bring a green society within reach. A widely used common IT infrastructure is vital and can act as icebreaker.
Scientific studies have proven that the contribution of green IT to a climate-neutral society is "only" two percent. However, if green IT infrastructure connects business processes of government organizations to one another and connects government and business communities, the effects will be synergetic. Just imagine the yield of supply chain collaboration in domains like taxes, social security, healthcare, granting of licenses or logistics.
GBO.Overheid administers a large proportion of the generic IT infrastructure of government parties and has become a vital link in future developments of electronic government. Green government casts a new light on the mission of GBO.Overheid. The use of generic IT solutions is essential if the administrative load of private citizens and businesses is lightened and, moreover, it will be less expensive. It is the point of departure for greener business process supply chains.
